State guide

Wyoming

Wyoming uses a general VIN inspection form, MV-300A, for out-of-state titles and several special-title situations. The state also has separate official programs for state-assigned VINs, rebuilt salvage decals, and bonded titles, each routed through WYDOT Motor Vehicle Services and county clerk offices.

Checked against official sources on October 4, 2026. Rules and links change; confirm with the office listed before you act.

Try a ZIP like 30303, “Travis County” or “Columbus, OH”
When a VIN verification is required
Wyoming requires VIN inspection for vehicles titled or registered in another state and for homemade, rebuilt, reconstructed, kit, and bonded-title vehicles; rebuilt salvage vehicles also need law enforcement to sign the Certification of Correct VIN Number after the decal is issued.
Who can do it
A Wyoming law enforcement officer may perform the inspection, and a licensed Wyoming dealer may inspect only vehicles in the dealer's inventory or possession; bonded-title and state-assigned-VIN pages specifically require law enforcement.
Official form
MV-300A Title Application / VIN Inspection Form; MV-401 Application for Assignment of Special Vehicle Identification Number; rebuilt salvage uses the Certification of Correct VIN Number sent with the decal.
Fee
$10.00 per VIN inspection on MV-300A; $20.00 for MV-401 state-assigned VIN application; no fee for a Rebuilt Salvage Vehicle Decal.

What to do next

  1. If your vehicle is already in Wyoming and you need a title from another state transferred, get the MV-300A inspection done before going to the county clerk.
  2. For a state-assigned VIN, gather ownership documents, a photo of the completed vehicle, and the $20.00 application fee before mailing MV-401 to WYDOT.
  3. If you are rebuilding a salvage vehicle from out of state, obtain the Wyoming salvage title first, then apply for the rebuilt salvage decal before registration.
